Under Deck Fastening SystemGalvanized30 Year Transferable Warranty

The SHADOE TRACK under deck fastening system

The conventional deck construction applies nails and screws through the deck boards into the wood joists. The wood weathers and shrinks, nails and screws loosen and pop up, not only becoming hazardous but also promoting rot by allowing moisture to penetrate the deck planks. Protection is jeopardized even if the wood surface has been treated with a preservative.

With the SHADOE TRACK system the tracks are nailed to the joists and the screws secure each board from below, preventing water penetration through fastener holes. No water penetration, no rot. The reversible track allows for splices and butt joints, and any width of decking may be used.

Cross-section: the track sits flush on the joist top edge and the screw is driven upward from below into the deck board, so nothing penetrates the walking surface.

Decks fail because…

The wood weathers and shrinks, nails and screws loosen and pop up, and moisture penetrates the deck planks around every fastener hole. Eliminate the main cause of deck failure: moisture penetration.

Why decks fail

Why use SHADOE TRACK?

  • No nails or screws visible on top deck surface.
  • Longer lasting deck — rot is not allowed to form around the fasteners, due to moisture penetration from conventional deck construction.
  • No more checks, hammer marks, or splinters.
  • Safer decks — eliminates fasteners popping up.
  • Easy to install.
  • Holes in the SHADOE TRACK allow for drainage.
  • Splices and butt joints can be made without splitting.
  • Deck board fasteners are held secure by tension provided by the angle of the SHADOE TRACK.
  • Galvanized track resists corrosion.
  • The SHADOE TRACK is backed by a 30 year transferable warranty, guaranteeing secure deck boards or your money refunded.

The full list of advantages

Easy as 1–2–3

The whole installation is three operations, with the deck boards spaced from above and fastened from underneath.

  1. Cross-section drawing: the track nailed flush along the top edge of a joist, with the nail positions marked.

Nail the track to the joist

Nail the SHADOE TRACK to the top edge of each joist. The track should be flush on top of the joist and flat against the side of the joist. The SHADOE TRACK is easily cut with snips to fit in the remainder of the joist that is under 8 feet in length.

  2. Plan drawing: three deck boards laid across a joist with the gaps between them marked.

Lay and space the deck boards

Install the deck boards one at a time. The deck boards should be located and properly spaced before securing with screws.

  3. Cross-section drawing: two screws driven upward through the track flange into the underside of a deck board.

    Drive the screws from below

By kneeling on top of the deck board and reaching underneath, the screws are driven through the SHADOE TRACK into the deck board. The track is designed to provide a minimum of two holes for 2" x 4" deck boards.

Sizing and reference

Everything needed to work out a track order and get the deck built.

The formula

Total all joists in feet, including rim joists, divided by 8ft = the number of 8ft SHADOE TRACK pieces.

For example: 264ft divided by 8ft = 33 pieces. Double the joist length at each splice or butt joint. Work it out

Tools required

  • Hammer
  • Tin snips
  • Tape measure
  • Drill — a close quarter drill is recommended

Safety first

  • Wear gloves when handling — the SHADOE TRACK may have sharp edges.
  • Wear proper safety protection when building the deck.
